Betty Jo Young

Betty Jo Kitchen Young, 93, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit after an extended illness. Prior to her passing, she was able to remain in her home with the love and care of her daughters and numerous caregivers. She was born April 3, 1930 in Tupelo to Richard Alvin Kitchen and Vernie Mae Lessel Kitchen. She married Elton Young on May 6, 1951 and they spent 55 wonderful years together before his passing. She was a faithful and active member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She loved her church family and friends.
She enjoyed traveling all over the country with her husband in their motor home and often took their grandchildren on trips with them. She loved her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her three daughters, Danette Becker (Alan), Vickie Nettleton, and Jenny Patterson (Billy); nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a sister, Dorothy Jean Kettleman; and a brother, Charles Kitchen (Margaret).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Elton E. Young; her parents, Alvin and Vernie Kitchen; son-in-law, Wilson Nettleton; brothers, Travis Kitchen, Farrell Kitchen, and Murle Kitchen; and sisters Nona Houston and Mildred Gore.
A private graveside service was held at Lee Memorial Park. Pegues Funeral Directors was entrusted with the arrangements. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Jackson Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
