BETTY SUE NEWCOMB



Tupelo - Betty Sue Newcomb, lifelong Tupelo native, 81, passed away after an extended illness Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at her home. She was born April 27, 1935, to Curtis Eugene, Sr. and Lena Mae Hill Gentry. On March 14, 1954, Betty Sue married James Newcomb. She was a member of Gloster Street Church of Christ and a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. Betty Sue later attended Eggville Church of Christ when she moved to be close to family. She was a devoted caregiver of her family. Betty Sue was very crafty and loved to do wood work. She was adventurous. She enjoyed going on trips with her family and throwing parties for friends and family on every occasion. Betty Sue loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Cook (Michael K.) and Regina Smith (Charles Michael) both of Tupelo; grandchildren, Bradley M. Smith of Tupelo, Jereamie Michael Cook (Sheryl) of Brandon, Shawndra Rogers (Damon) of Tupelo and Shannon Hodges (Chris) of Pontotoc; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Collin, Presley, Peyton, Perry James, Britten, Brina, Logan, Carter, Anniston and Langston.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 44 years, brother, Curtis E. Gentry, Jr. and sister, Katie Ruth Reed.



Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2017, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.



Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Minister Leon Willis and Bro. Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Beech Springs Cemetery.



Pallbearers will be Craig Cook, Damon Rogers, Bradley Smith, Jereamie Cook, Chris Hodges and Carl Stuper.
