Pontotoc - Bessie Tackitt Brown, 82, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her residence. A life-long resident of Pontotoc County, she was born July 3, 1935, to Earl Veltion and Mary Britt Winters. She worked as a seamstress in furniture manufacturing and she also made clothing for friends and family. Bessie enjoyed crafting, embroidering and creating items such as dolls and clowns. Later in life, she found great joy in going to local auctions. She was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolynn New and her husband, Jerry of Pontotoc and Marquitta Dulaney and her husband, Bobby of Pontotoc; one son, James "Pete" Tackitt and his wife, Rita of Pontotoc; two sisters, Nita Russell of Bethany, Louisiana and Dale Sullins of Pontotoc; ten grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, James Hubert Tackitt; second husband, Lesley Brown; one sister, Jeanette Calvary; one daughter, Janie Tutor; one grandson, John David Thomas; one great-grandson, Jeremy Allen New; and one great-great-grandson, Billy Galloway, Jr.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Jimmy Tackett and Bro. Linn Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Valley Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers have been chosen from family and friends.
