Bess Dodson

Shannon - Bess Dodson, 75, joined her Lord and Savior Monday, July 6, 2015 at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born May 21, 1940 to Walter and Pauline Aycock Flaherty. Mrs. Bess retired from American General Insurance Company where she worked as a clerk. Starting a second career in tax preperations, she opened up Dodson Tax Service and worked her business from home. She served as a pianist for 40 years at Doty Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and Treasurer. In her later years she was an active member at First Baptist Church of Shannon. Mrs. Bess had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated Christrian who loved and served the Lord with her talents and how she lived her everyday life. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Shannon with Bro. Bill Mason and Bro. John Davis officiating. Burial will be in Doty Chapel Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include one son, Robert "Bat" Dodson (Debbie) of Booneville; one daughter, Debra Doskocil (Doug) of Shreveport, LA; two grandchildren Rob Dodson(Cassandra) of Booneville and Britney Dodson of Dundee; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Cashe, Hayze and Bailey Dodson; one brother, Dee Flaherty; a special friend Gale Oswalt and a host of special caregivers. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband of 35 years, Bro. Bob Dodson, and two sisters, Ilene Holley Burrough and Sarah Britt. Pallbearers will be Mike Bray, Mike Flaherty, Jay Oswalt, Phillip Holley, Frank Britt and David Nanney. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the funeral home and will continue at First Baptist Church of Shannon from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday.
