Pontotoc - Bennie Rhudolph (Rudy) Evans, 83, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany after an extended illness. A Waynesboro, Mississippi native, he was born September 22, 1925 to Ben and Mattie Evans. He was a U.S. United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired and the former owner of a roofing construction company. He was a member First Christian Church in Orange, Texas and also Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church in Pontotoc. He loved to read his Bible.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Moody officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years and 8 months, Gloria Evans, of Pontotoc; three children, Peggy June Lindley (Ronnie) of Verona, Linda Marie Horton (Ronnie) of Belden and Danya Leigh Evans of Orange, Texas; three step-daughters, Trish Morchowder (Michael) of Rockaway, New Jersey, Nancy Colter (Mark) of Lafayette, New Jersey and Cheryl deJong (Joe) of Sealy, Texas; two brother-in-laws, Edgar Smith Sr. of Pontotoc and Bill Deskin of Memphis, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Peggy Deskin of Memphis; 5 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Clyde Henderson.
Visitation will be 1:30 until service time Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the church.
