A public celebration of Ben’s life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023, at East Fulton Baptist Church gymnasium. During this time the family welcomes friends to share their stories and memories of Ben Patton.
Ben was born in Tupelo on October 25, 1956, to Willie and Nadine Searcy Patton. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1974. In 1983, he began his career as a Car Salesman at Davis Ford in Fulton. After 20 years with Davis Ford, in 2007, he became the Itawamba Sheriff’s Administrator and held that position for the last 16 years.
“Big Ben” was often referred to as a “gentle giant” for his tall stature, kind nature, and sincere spirit. He was quick-witted and would be described as a man of few words, but anything he said was always worth hearing.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting, gardening with his wife, trading on guns and knives, and mulling over the world’s problems. He was a very active member of East Fulton Baptist Church. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Ben is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bennie Scott Patton; two children, Ben Patton (Lauren) and Bethany Patton Stephens (Brad); six grandchildren, Morgan (26), Ava (13), Kallie Beth (11), Millie (4), Ellis (1), and Emmett (1); two great-grandchildren, Waylon, and Weston; and his mother, Nadine Searcy Patton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Ben Patton; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Patton, and Mr. and Mrs. O. N. Searcy.
An intimate service with immediate family was held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at East Fulton Baptist Church with Brother Terry Paul Graham, Brother Brad Creely, and Brother Dewitt Bain officiating. Ben was laid to rest at White Church Cemetery. Pegues Funeral Directors was entrusted with the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Michael Jo Scott, Stanley Scott, Carl Hall, Larry Guntharp, Jason Guntharp, and Gene Searcy. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Ray Searcy, Larry Searcy, Ellis Patton, Emmett Patton, Waylon Bullock, and Weston Bullock.
