Tupelo - Rebecca Marlin Cook, 81, passed away on December 1, 2015 at the Greenhouses at Traceway in Tupelo. She was born August 7, 1934, in Lee County to Homer T. and Mamie Sims Marlin. She lived most of her young life in the Auburn Community, and she attended school at Lawhon and graduated from Tupelo High in 1952. Becky attended MSCW, and then married her sweetheart, Bobby Joe Cook on May 31, 1953. They were married over 60 years, until his death on March 9, 2014. After her youngest child entered school, she worked at Thomas Street Elementary School as a library assistant for several years. She later had a successful career in real estate at Mike Guyton/Magnolia Realty of Tupelo. Becky enjoyed working with Girl Scouts as a volunteer.

After years of serving as a volunteer and a member on the Executive Board of the local Girl Scout Council, she was named Executive Director of the Prairie Girl Scout Council in 1981, a position she held until her retirement in 1998. Under her direction, the council thrived and Camp Tik-A-With-A was expanded.

Becky was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Tupelo, and was active in many church activities. Becky also served on multiple committees, was a past WMU President, and taught a ladies Sunday school class, until her health declined.

Becky enjoyed her role as a housewife and mother, and was very involved in her children's activities in their younger years. She enjoyed being involved in the lives of her children, and took great pride in her grandchildren. Her hobbies and interests included playing bridge, cooking, sewing, and reading. She was known as a friendly, vivacious person who had the gift of hospitality, which won her many friends during her lifetime.

Survivors include her children Jennifer Cook Smothers (David), Mark Cook and Ellen Cook Gore (Joseph) all of Tupelo; grandchildren, Dr. Brian Smothers (Dr. Melissa) of Milwaukee, WI, Joseph Smothers (Kristen) of Tupelo and Cayla Cook of Starkville; step-grandchild, Dana Gore of Baldwyn; great-grandchildren, Judah Smothers and Bennett Smothers of Milwaukee, WI.; step-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Sadie, Gauge, Jeremy, Karlee and Marlee; sister, Sandra Shapard of Albany, NY; brother, Hugh Marlin of Springville, AL; sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Cook of Tupelo; many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby J. Cook, and her parents.

Services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 5, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Tupelo, officiated by Dr. Gayle Alexander and assisted by Rev. Ricky Young, Rev. Randy Wood, and Rev. Dave Jensen. A graveside service will follow at Auburn Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Friday, December 4, 2015, 3:30-5:30 p.m. at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Pallbearers will be Jack McFerrin, James Shelton, Larry Booth, Jimmy Burleson, George Mason, and Larry Newman.

Honorary pallbearers will be her former staff of the Prairie Girl Scout Council, and the former members of the Becky Cook Sunday School class at FBC, Tupelo.

The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers over the past two years: Sanctuary Home Hospice, the Franks Greenhouse at Traceway, Avonlea Assisted Living, and Alecia Anderson's Sitter Service.
