Beatrice Ann Ruff Luckett, 84, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Cedars Health Care Center. A native and life-long resident of Tupelo, she was born June 13, 1934, to George Hinton and Zillah Kathryn Zent Ruff. Bea was a 1952 graduate of Tupelo High School and went to Mississippi State College for Women for two years before transferring to Ole Miss where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education in 1956. Early in life, she worked as a pre-school teacher at Joy Land Pre-School and First Presbyterian Church for a number of years. She became a real estate agent with Quinn-Blake Realtors in Tupelo where she worked until the business closed and she joined as an agent with T.R.I. Inc. Realtors. After T.R.I., she went to work for Century 21 Sue Gardner Realty and remained active even throughout her hospitalization and rehabilitation. During her real estate career, she remained active with the Northeast Mississippi Board of Realtors.
Bea loved Tupelo and was an advocate for the city and all it has to offer. She was a life member and past President of the Tupelo Junior Auxiliary. She was a member of the Community Development Foundation where she served as a CDF Ambassador and was named Ambassador of the Year in 2012. The Tupelo Lee Humane Society was near and dear to Bea's heart along with all of the four-legged critters she raised and adored. She was an avid supporter of everything Ole Miss especially football and basketball. She loved spending time with her family and friends at their family cabin on Pickwick Lake. She also enjoyed spending time with her "bridge club", tennis group and the close friend group she began cultivating as a child growing up in Tupelo. Bea was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church enjoying the relationships and fellowship established with her church family.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Joseph Hugh Luckett, Jr.; two sons, Tre' Luckett and his wife, Laura of Collierville, Tennessee and Andy Luckett and his wife, Lacy Anne of Tupelo; and three grandchildren, Drew Luckett of Brandon, Ann Clark Luckett of Hattiesburg and Jay Luckett of Collierville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Zillah Ruff; sister, Edith Ruff Thomas; and three brothers, George, Balfour and Guy Ruff.
Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church.
Services honoring her life will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Olin McBride and Dr. Ron Richardson officiating. Graveside services will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Thomas, Douglas Baker, James Williams, Grey Megginson, Haywood Washburn, Norris "Piggy" Caldwell and Bubba Nash.
