Avis Virginia Bishop Burleson

Dorsey- Avis Virginia Bishop Burleson, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 12:07 a.m. surrounded by her loved ones. She was born July 31, 1934 to Dave Andrew and Lottie Dale Holcomb Bishop. On April 23, 1964, she married Harold Francis Burleson. Early in life, she managed Coleman's BBQ on East Main Street in Tupelo. Later in life, she worked at Lee Sportswear in Tupelo and Plantersville. Avis enjoyed reading her bible every day and had a passion for music. She was surrounded daily by three of her grandchildren, Macey, Taygen and Layten Tyde. She will be forever remembered as being the "peacemaker" of the family. Her loving heart will be missed by all who met her.



Survivors include daughter, Donna Clingan (Bill) of Dorsey and Pam Hand of Pontotoc; son, Roger Clippard (Carolyn); 17; 33 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great- grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Bishop Davis of Tupelo.



She is preceded in death by husband; daughter, Kathy Marks; grandson, Roger Lee Clippard, Jr.; one niece and nephew who she raised as her own, Gail Floyd Franklin and David Floyd; sister, Geneva Bishop Gahagen.



Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.



Services honoring her life will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Jimmy Dale Sartin officiating. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery.
