Verona - Audie Weader Stevens, 86, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after a brief illness. A Lee County native, he was born September 10, 1922, to James Oscar and Saddie Potts Stevens. He was a farmer, pulpwood cutter and retired from F.M.C. He enjoyed working on his old cars and was a small engine mechanic. He especially loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Hughes Chapel Baptist Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Ray Bennett and Rev. Keith Benefield officiating. Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Stevens and wife, Betty, of Saltillo and Gerald Stevens and wife, Sandra, of the Auburn Community; two sisters, Ruth Brown of Dorsey and Sue Stevens of Tupelo; one sister-in-law, Betty Stevens of Belden; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Campbell and husband, Matt, of Marietta, Paul Cummins of Auburn, Dale Stevens of Fellowship Community, Gail Stevens of Tupelo and Wade Stevens of Auburn; nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Burie Quay Stevens who died June 18, 2008; one grandson, Little Gerald Stevens, Jr.; one brother, Earnest Stevens; and three sisters, Wilma, Delta, and Alice.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Pyle, Michael Norris, Wade Stevens, and Jason Livingston.
