Aubrey Followell

Tupelo - Aubrey Leon Followell, 90, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Darlington Oaks Community Hospice after an extended illness. A native of Brown County, Ind., he was born May 5, 1918 to Roy and Bertha Sexton Followell. The central pillar of his life was his 66 year marriage to Wilma Bocock Followell whom he married Dec. 31, 1941. At the age of 19 he graduated from Indiana Central Normal College and tuaght school for 15 years in one and two room school houses across Brown County, Ind. During the sumers he worked for Arvins Industries. He served two years in the US Army during World War II and saw duty in France as a medical corpsman, landing in Normandy with the second wave of troops. He was a member of the American Legion. He started working full time for Arvins in Columbus, Ind. in 1952. He transferred to Tupelo, MS in 1973, retiring in 1983 after 33 years of service. During retirement he and his wife turned their hobbies into a full time business, making dolls and small wood working items to sell at local flea markets.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. A Private Burial Service will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Wilma Bocock Followell of Tupelo; three daughters, Linda Taylor (Tommy) of Goodrich, Tex., Brenda Henderson and (Gary Briggs) of Corinth, and Judith Koger of Tupelo; one son, Larry Follwell (Ann) of Curry, Ala.; one brother, Wilbur Followell of Belmont, Ind.; five grandchildren, Pamela Kalid (Ardif), Lance Taylor (Chelsea), Scott Henderson, Steve Koger (Linda), and Mike Koger; four great-granddaughters, Tasneem, Ameera, Saara, and Noora Kalid; four great-grandsons, Elisa Aubrey, Ezra Taylor, and Jacob and Drew Koger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chester Followell; and son-in-law, Clifton Koger.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the funeral home.
