Arvis Gillentine

Arvis Gillentine Mooreville - Arvis Jackson Gillentine, 87, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on September 4, 2014, while at Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born on August 1, 1927, in Itawamba County to Willie and Ireda Moore Gillentine. He moved to Mooreville as a small child where he graduated from Mooreville High School in 1946. He married Virginia Dale Morgan, the love of his life, on Christmas Eve in 1944. He served in the Navy during WWII and after his return home he went to work for D & N auto parts. Then he went to work for Gravlee Lumber Co. for 12 years. He started his own business, C & G Auto Parts in 1966 and sold that business after nearly 20 years when he opened C & G Auto Sales. He always had a love for cars and passed that on to his family. He retired in 1996 and loved being home and especially spending time with his family who did everything together. He loved to tinker in his workshop and do yard work in which he took great pride. He was a gentle spirit who was very humble, kind, soft spoken, always there to help and compassionate to others that were less fortunate. He was a devoted and faithful member of Mooreville United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years. He will be remembered and missed greatly by his family and friends. Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Robert McCoy, Rev. Sammy Washburn and Rev. Abe Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. His spirit is carried on by his wife, Virginia Dale Morgan Gillentine; his daughters, Sandra Gillentine Ballard (Dan) and Sheila Gillentine Jenkins (Barry) both of Tupelo; four granddaughters, Camille Brown Dixon (Jim) of Rosemary Beach, FL., Carrie Brown Thomas (Britt) of Cumming, GA., Brandi Bass Henley (Wade) and Anna Katherine Webb, both of Tupelo; one grandson, Joshua Jenkins of Tupelo; eight great-grandchildren, Paxton and Elisa Dixon, Emma and Aubrey Thomas, Chase, Gracie, Hunter and Collin Henley; his uncle, Mitchell Moore; nieces and a nephew. Arvis was reunited with his father, Willie Gillentine; his mother, Ireda Bernice Gillentine; his brother, Willie Crafton Gillentine and two son-in-laws, Lawrence Newton Brown II and Steven Carl Bass. Pallbearers will be Carl Patterson, Mitch Patterson, Bob Easley, Michael Gillentine, Dax Wheeler and Randy Pearce. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clyde Morgan, Ricky Pearce, Jack Leslie, Charles Elliot and Bill Pickens. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 and 11 a.m. to service time Saturday September 06, 2014 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Memorials may be made to Mooreville United Methodist Church.
