NETTLETON " Arvad L. Dye, 94, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at his residence in Nettleton only four days from the passing of his wife of 67 years, Margaret. He was born Oct. 22, 1914, in the Brewer Community to James Rufus and Gladys Nicholson Dye. An Army Veteran of World War II, he spent 26 and a half months in the South Pacific, the last of which was in Japan prior to returning home after the war.
He owned and operated Dye Construction, Inc., which was passed on to his son. He was a charter member of the Nettleton Lions Club. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a longtime and faithful member of Nettleton United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, Finance Board, and for many years was Chairman of the Trustees. He was also a faithful member of the Disciples Sunday School Class.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Nettleton United Methodist Church with Rev. David Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Spraberry of Abilene, Texas, and Judy Harrison (Perry) of Blue Springs; one son, Ken Dye (Phyllis) of Brewer; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hinds (James) of Glen Cove, Texas, David Hatfield (April) of Hawley, Texas, Stephanie Putt (Steven) of Oxford, and Jacob Arvad Dye of Brewer; five stepgrandchildren, Vance Harrison (Dena) of Heber Springs, Ark., Chris Harrison (Sharon) of Germantown, Tenn., Tripp Harrison (Heather) of Oxford, Micah Monaghan (Courtney) of Pelham, Ala., and Jessica Ian Monaghan of Brewer; 15 great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Curtis Hilt, Christy Hilt, Mary Kennedy, Jimmie Hendrix, and Josephine Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Ward and Lottie Bowles; three brothers, Johnnie Dye, Evis L. Dye and Duel Dye; and one grandson, Jared Dye.
Pallbearers will be Robert Allen Godfrey, Joe Hester, Frank Riley, Glyn Hester, Leon Pettigrew and Wade Holley.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Nettleton United Methodist Church, 160 Verona Ave., Nettleton MS 38858, or a favorite charity.
