Annie Barnes

Tupelo - Annie Fay Barnes, 96, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Lee County, she was born September 17, 1914, to the late James Sumpter and Myrtie Hall Wheeler. She married Tracy Lee Barnes in 1929. She began her career as a factory worker at Mantachie. She worked at the Mooreville High School Cafeteria nine years and was manger seven years. Later, she worked in the central steril processing Department at the North Mississippi Medical Center for 11 years. She continuted to work in the both the main hospital and Womens Center gift shops for a total of 14 years until the age of 90. She volunteered with the North Mississippi Medical Center Women's Auxiliary and in the ICU waiting room. She was a charter member of Allens Chapel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the UMW. She loved her family and enjoyed every moment spent with them.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Sammy Washburn and Tim Winters officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Sheffield of Atlanta, Ga. and Jane Cockrell of Mooreville; one son, James Barnes (Naomi) of Mooreville; four grandchildren, Jeff Cockrell of Mooreville, Parrish Sheffield of Atlanta, Rolon Barnes (Jan) of Mooreville, Penny Scaife (Mark) of Atlanta; six great-grandchildren, Andrew and Andria Barnes of Mooreville, Garrett and Alex Barbaree of Atlanta, Lauren and Hayden Sheffield of Atlanta; one great-grandchild, Caiden Jacobson; two sisters-in-law, Helen Wheeler of Madison and Fay Wheeler Miller of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Mae Wheeler Foster; three brothers, John Wheeler, Jimmy Wheeler and Raymond Wheeler.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Cockrell, Rolon and Andrew Barnes, Alex and Garrett Barbaree, Parrish and Jerry Sheffield and Clarence Foster
.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
