VERONA - Anna Lois "Miss Anna" Russell, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Trace Regional Hospital in Houston after a long illness. She was a native of Lee County and the daughter of Curtis Lee Morphis and Mary Caroline Davis Morphis. She was a longtime resident of Verona. She was a retired seamstress with more than 30 years of service. She loved reading, traveling, growing flowers, going to carport sales and family gatherings. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to call her "Little Mamaw."
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Davis of Verona and Patsy Koonce (Robbie) of Jackson, Tenn.; four sons, Ladell Russell (Janie, her special caregiver) of Shannon, Tommy Joe Russell of the Furrs community, Teddy Neal Russell (Bobby Ann) of the Endville community and Charles Lee Russell (April) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Nellie Dillard of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Bill Morphis (Sue) of Houlka; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe Boyd, Dale Boyd, Dale Boyd Jr., Shawn Boyd, Cory Boyd and Patrick Keith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hershel Russell, on Feb. 15, 1981; three brothers, Eber Morphis, J.T. Morphis and James Morphis; and a sister, Ruby Faye Wallis.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
