Ann Gilpin Leake



Ann Gilpin Leake, 76, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. In 1952, Mrs. Leake married Medford Memory (Mem) Leake. Immediately following their marriage, the couple was stationed for two years at Edwards Air Force Base, California, followed by an assignment in the 22nd District Office of Special Investigation in New York City. Mem and Ann then returned to Tupelo, where they raised their family. Mrs. Leake worked for Leake & Goodlett, Inc., Gilpin Cleaners, and was a real estate agent for Charlie Trapp Realty and Quin Blake Realty. Mrs. Leake was very active in civic and church activities. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the chancel choir, served as superintendent of the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and was a teacher in the primary department.



A private graveside service will be held Tuesday at Glenwood Cemetery.



Mrs. Leake is survived by her husband, Medford Memory (Mem) Leake; two sons, Medford Memory (Med) Leake, Jr., of Carbondale, CO.; James Thomas (Jim) Leake, of Newnan, GA; one daughter, Katherine Leake (Kathy) Friestad, of Smyrna, GA; two grandsons, James Thomas Leake, Jr., and Matthew Leake Friestad; and one step-grandson, Bonner Reese Hankins.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Foundation Fighting Blindness, Owings Mill, MD; Mississippi Methodist Senior Services; or a charity of the contributors choice.



Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo.
