Fairy “Ann” Johnson Davis, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the inpatient hospice unit at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born in Mantee, MS on March 7, 1935, to Benjamin F. Johnson, Sr., and Elizabeth Pennington Johnson. She moved to Tupelo in her late teens where she met Charles Wilson Davis. They were married on May 24, 1958 and were married for forty-one years until his passing in 1999.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sherman Baptist Church. The day she and her husband became members of the church, she was asked to teach a Sunday school class. She had no experience, but she was willing, and over several decades she served the church as a Sunday school teacher, VBS director, WMU director, and church hostess for social functions. Her legacy of service proved that God did not need her abilities, but rather her availability to serve. Her biggest joys were reading and studying God’s word, her granddaughter, Lauren, and her beloved dog, Odie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother. She is survived by her son, Chuck Davis and his wife, Martha Lynn, of Tupelo, and one granddaughter, Lauren Davis of Tupelo. Additionally, other survivors include three nieces, a special cousin, and a host of longtime neighbors and friends.
According to her wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Visitation and service will be private. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will be in the Sherman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be directed to Sherman Baptist Church, or Gateway Rescue Mission in Jackson, MS.
The family would also like to express appreciation to Dr. Paul White for the many years of medical care he provided to her, Magnolia Manor Assisted Living, and the staff of the NMMC inpatient hospice unit for their exceptional and loving care in her final days.
