Anita Schumpert Gunter

ANITA GUNTER Tupelo - Anita Schumpert Gunter, 77, died Monday, July 30, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in the Brewer Community on February 28, 1935, to Clyde Robert and D'Arca Johnston Schumpert. After graduating from Shannon High School, she then went on to Florence State College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. After teaching for one year, she married Rev. Doyce Gunter on June 1, 1958. For the next fifty-four years, she was a Methodist Minister's wife and did mission work in rural areas with the United Methodist Church. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Tupelo. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Rooney and Dr. Jimmy Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Brewer United Methodist Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her husband of fifty-four years, Rev. Doyce Gunter of Tupelo; her children, Timothy Gunter of Atlanta, Georgia and Nancy Gunter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three sisters, Evelyn Young of Saltillo, Wilodyne Barnett of Brewer and Norma Godwin (Dudley) of Evergreen, Alabama; one brother, Tilmon Schumpert (Helen) of Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gerald Schumpert; one sister, Betty Payne. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the funeral home.
