ALVIN C. HOLCOMB
Chesterville - Alvin C. Holcomb, 84, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness. A Pontotoc native, he was born November 27, 1921 to the late George Franklin and Margaret Elizabeth Scruggs Holcomb. He attended school at Longview. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and achieving the rank of sergeant. He was a retired body shop repairman and a member of Chesterville Baptist Church. Prior to being disabled, he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Joe Lusby, Rev Bill Mason, and Rev. Sammy Coker officiating. Burial will be in Chesterville Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Louise Wilson Holcomb of Chesterville; three children, Pat Frederick, Douglas Johnson both of Chesterville, and Michael R. Holcomb of Marietta, Georgia; nine grandchilren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, one grandson, Terry Farris, and one great-grandson, Hunter Wayne Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Scott Holcomb, Heath Holcomb, Jeff Pannell, Donald Johnson, Logan Johnson, Dennis Coggins, and Chip Kelly.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and 1 p.m. until service time on Wednesday.
