Tupelo - Alma Dell Corder, 104, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Mantee, she was born March 14, 1905 to Mack S. and Katie Clara Caples Forrester. She taught school in Pontotoc County for 10 years before beginning her 30 years of service at the North Mississippi Medical Center, first as a bookkeeper and later as the Assistant administrator. After her retirement, she attended Mississippi State University, earning a degree in Business Administration.
She was the widow of George W. Corder who preceded her in death in 1966. She was a former member of the Pilot Club and of Harrisburg Baptist Church where she served as a past President of the Merry Makers Senior Adult Group.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and Rev. David Langerfeld officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Webster County. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Max Corder (Debbie) of Bigfork, MT; one step daughter, Gara Edwards of Pontotoc; one sister, Mable Hussey of Mantee; two grandchildren, Clinton Williams Carper (Amber) of Atlanta and William Rush Corder (Melissa) of Bigfork, MT; one great-grandchild, Callie Carper; and step-grandchildren: Martha Classon of Louisville, Ky; Bill Corder (Barbara) of Houston, TX; Herma Jean Johnson (Cecil) of Coleman, TX; Bobby Corder (Mary) of Orange, TX; Patricia Blume (Jay) of San Antonio, TX; Janie Waldrip (Gary) of Tupelo; Nancy Breaux (Leonard) of Orange, TX; Judy Guidry (Jimmy) of Orange, TX; Priscilla McArthur (Austin) of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Alexander Heath Corder.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church and the body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.
