Saltillo - Allene Terrell, 84, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Country Wood Plantation in Mantachie after an extended illness. She was born February 11, 1924 in Wilmington Calif. to Dan and Ila Marlar Parker. She grew up in Chicota, Tex. and moved to the Eggville Community in 1945 after she married Fred Terrell November 14, 1942. She believed in the power of prayer and was a Methodist. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and working in her garden before her illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Tom Sheffield and Rev. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Beverly Sparks and husband, Rusty, of Saltillo and Carolyn Hammock and husband, David, of Counce, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Grace Sparks, Brenden Sparks, and Katie Hammock; two sisters, Goldie Keiser of Glen Carbon, Ill. and Katie McCourt of Chicota, Tex.; two brothers, Alvin Parker and David Parker, both of Chicota, Tex.; Mac Dolly, and Scarlett Underwood of Saltillo whom she considered her family; Rachel Leathers and the staff of Countrywood Plantation who cared for her like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Terrell; two sons, Steven Terrell and James Terrell; one sister, Ruth Sax and three brothers, Russel Boyd Parker, Clarence Parker, and Lawrence Parker.
Pallbearers will be Mac Underwood, Larry Wigginton, Aubrey Harris, Cecil Harris, Jimmy Sparks, and Tommy Smith.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Saltillo funeral home.
