ALICE RAPER BAILEY
Tupelo - Alice Raper Bailey, 84, died Sunday, January 21, 2007, at the Green Houses At Traceway after an extended illness. A native of Lee county, she was born August 1, 1922 to the late Sim and Katie Young Raper. She enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses. She was a dedicated pastor's wife and devoted to her family. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she was active until her health declined.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Wade Allen officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Young and husband, Russell of Tupelo; one son, Howard Bailey and wife, Nita of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Mitzi Boyd of Nashville, Tenn., Angie Roebuck and husband, Gary, of Nashville, Kevin Bailey and wife, Cindy, of Saltillo, and Rev. Chad Bailey and wife, Rebecca, of Jackson; seven great-grandchildren, Jake Smith, Will Smith, D.J. McDonnald, Candice Roebuck, Karson Bailey, Hannah Bailey, and Samuel Bailey; and two great-great-grandchildren, Caiden Smith and Addison Smith; one sister, Dewdrop Clayton of Tupelo; numerous nieces and nephews; her special caregivers at The Martin House
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rev. A.V. Bailey; four sisters, Avinell Clayborne, Lavelle Vinson, Veatrice Young, and Gladys Roper; two brothers, J.E. Raper and Everett Raper.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Bailey, Rev. Chad Bailey, Jake Smith, Will Smith, D.J. McDonald, and Larry Raper
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Clayton, Joe Clayton, and Gary Roebuck, and Bill Boyles.
Visitation will continue Tuesday 11 a.m. until service time.
