Alfred A. Laney Sr.

November 22, 1930 — October 31, 2008

Evergreen Community - Alfred A. Laney Sr., 77, died Friday, October 31, 2008, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory after an extended illness. He was born November 22, 1930 to Crafton and Vera Laney. After he graduated Hatley High School, he then served in the military. He retired from Metalloy and also worked as a mechanic at T. F Evans Lumber Co in the Evergreen Community. He was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church. He was always a caring and loving person.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. John Robert Burt and Rev. Robert Maxey officiating. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Jo Laney of the Evergreen Community; three sons, Crafton Laney (Marla) of Fulton, Alfred Laney Jr. and Tony McDaniel both of the Evergreen Community; two granddaughters, Megan and Alli Laney of the Evergreen Community; three grandsons, Nicholas Laney, Jordan Laney and Micah Laney of Fulton; four sisters, Ruth Gray (David) of Hatley, Barbara House (Doyle) of Hamilton, Paulette Cates (Hammond) of Amory, and Helen Howell (Lynn) of Becker .

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beatrice Vaughn and Bonnie Childers; two brothers, Luther Laney and Cotton Laney.

Pallbearers will be Van Childers, Dewayne Laney, David Cates, Doyle House, J. C. Holloway, Dr. John Allen and Daniel Howell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Howard McDaniel, Joel Farrar, Matt McDaniel, Joey Childers, Jeff Cates and Charlie Schumpert.

Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the funeral home.
