Addis Mitchell Lessel

MITCHELL LESSEL Tupelo - Addis Mitchell Lessel, 85, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House. A Lee County native, he was born June 12, 1928 to Walter Addis and Mamie Lou Wages Lessel. He was a 1947 graduate of Belden High School, he then went on to Itawamba Junior College, Sunflower Junior College and Mississippi State University. Mitchell was a United States Army veteran. After serving his country he worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. Returning to Mississippi, he retied from Malone and Hyde Warehouse after forty years of employment. Mitchell was a Master Mason, R. E. Lee Lodge 156 and a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a long time member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Terry Faulkner and Dr. Jerry Welch officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery northwest of Belden. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jean Vinson Lessel; two daughters, Debbie Tindall (Tom), Susan Wood (Terry) of Macedonia Community; one sister, Pauline Grissom Sartain (Carl) of Fulton; four grand-children, Leslie Iverson (Chad) of Macedonia Community, Leah Thrasher (Andy) of Brices Cross Road, Jessica Eaton (Tommy) of Saltillo, Justin Wood (Amanda) of Macedonia Community; seven great-grandchildren, Jett Thrasher, Charlzie Thrasher, Tripp Iverson, Cora Iverson, Harrison Eaton, Hayden Eaton and Holder Eaton; brother in-law William Vinson (Linda) of Jackson, Tenn. and sister-in-law Lucy Welch of Sherman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Addis and Mamie Wages Lessel and his brother-in-law Douglas Grissom. Pallbearers will be Justin Wood, Tommy Eaton, Chad Iverson, Andy Thrasher, Ronnie Irwin, Bob Grant, Jerry Smith. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Nelson Addison, Mancel Robison, Tommy Joe Smith, Harold Livingston, John Rice, Sammy Rice and Lamar Hunter. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
