Auburn - Addie Lee Mills Thompson, 101, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center of Pontotoc after an extended illness. She was born November 1, 1907 in Chickasaw County to John Rufus and Sallie Lee Magness Mills. She lived the majority of her life in the Auburn and Saltillo areas, but had lived at Graceland Nursing Home for 1 year, 10 months. Mrs. Addie was the last surviving member of ten siblings.

A great centurian, she was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Addie saw a lot of history in her lifetime, from the steam engine to super sonic. The world got too fast for her, but she loved every minute of it. She believed you "spare the rod and you spoiled the child" and she knew quite well how to use the "Rod Rule, " and for this, Mom, We love you!

Mrs. Addie received the Key to the City of Tupelo from Mayor Ed Neeley on her 100th birthday. There was a big celebration held at the Auburn Community Center with music and a host of friends and relatives. She thoroughly enjoyed music and did not mind doing a little step or two. She was a seamstress for Reeds Manufacturing in the 1930's and early 1940's. She lived through two World Wars, the Great Depression and The Tornado of 1936, which almost destroyed Tupelo. She lost several family members in this storm. She was a member of Eggville Free Will Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Mrs. Addies life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E Pegues with Rev. Wesley Kingsley officiating. Burial will be in Boguefala Cemetery in Mooreville.

Survivors include four daughters, Marie Mallette of Saltillo, Marine Garrett of Auburn, Corrine Culver of Tupelo, and Lorene Holcomb (Rev. Joe Holcomb) of Pontotoc; 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandson; and a host of special nieces and nephews whom she loved; one very special grandson, Danny Ray Garrett, whom she dearly loved.
