Aarron Helms

AARON HELMS Plantersville - Aaron Tracy Helms, 87, passed from this life into a host of welcoming angels on January 18, 2013, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland with his daughter at his side. Born on May 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Ezell and Sarchie Lou Helms. Aaron served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, France, then later in Germany and Belgium. Upon returning to Mississippi, he was married to Annie Frances Harris Helms. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on November 28th. The majority of his career was spent working at Day-Brite Lighting in Tupelo. He was a very humble member of the "Greatest Generation" and took pride in his service to his country and community. He loved to tell stories of his childhood and life experiences. An avid gardener, he spent much time outdoors working in his yard and helping others in the community tend to theirs. He also loved to watch birds and was especially fond of his blue bird houses. Aaron had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and listen to bluegrass and gospel music. He was a long time member of Plantersville United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife Frances, daughter Sherrilyn Helms Brown (Patrick), brother-in-law Carl Harris (Marvalene), grandchildren Tracey Townsend Watts, Rob Sanderson, Will Riggs, and Maggie Riggs Brown (Jeff). He also leaves a legacy of love to his great grandchildren Tre Watts, Tyler Watts, Chandlor Sanderson, and Ivy Sanderson, special niece Libby Berryhill Davis, and many other nieces, nephews, and their children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Julia Helms Riggs, sisters Earlene Berryhill and Luzelle Francis, brothers Marion Helms and Kelly Helms, and his beloved cat, Miss Sambo. Visitation will be on January 20, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home on Jefferson Street in Tupelo, then from 12 to 1 p.m. on January 21 at Plantersville United Methodist Church with services immediately following officiated by Rev. James Richardson and Rev. Lynn Fair. Burial will be at Plantersville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Patrick Brown, Tre Watts, Tyler Watts, Jeff Brown, Jonny Davis, and Andy Davis. Memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, 450 Towne Center Boulevard, Ridgeland, MS 39157 or Plantersville United Methodist Church, 839 Central Avenue, Plantersville, MS 38862.
