JOYCE STOVALL HERRING Palmetto Community - Joyce Stovall Herring, 89, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Plantersville on May 2, 1926, to William Henry and Eddie Jane Harris Stovall. She graduated from Plantersville High School and was salutatorian in her graduating class. Joyce was a secretary at First Baptist Church of Tupelo before she worked at Malone and Hyde from which she retired after 25 years. On August 2, 1945, she married Leon L. Herring and they shared their lives together creating a family and spending time on their farm for 68 years before his passing in 2013. Joyce cooked, cleaned and made sure her family was well taken care of. She enjoyed any time she could spend with her grandchildren and told great children's stories that they loved to hear. She was a long time member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include three daughters, Terry Grass (Keith) of the Palmetto Community, Carol Witt of the Palmetto Community and Sheryl Mask (Junior) of the Old Union Community; grandchildren, Fredrick Keith Grass of the Palmetto Community, Micheal Kevin Grass (Julia) of Springhill, Tenn., JoAnna Williams (Bruce) of the Palmetto Community, Jennifer Lovern (Gary) of the Palmetto Community, Jessica Cochran (Lindsey) of the Mt. Vernon Community, Melanie Wilson (Herschel) of the Old Union Community, Cindy Devaughn of Mooreville, Amanda Simmons (Scott) of the Palmetto Community; great-grandchilren, Christian Grass, Mia Grass, Anna Williams, Joe Williams, Caleb Lovern, Zoe Lovern, Ross Cochran, Lucy Cochran, Abby Wilson, Austin Wilson, Seth Simmons, Sadie Simmons, Shelby Simmons, Todd Simmons, Ben Simmons and Molly Simmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon L. Herring; parents, Henry and Eddie Jane Stovall; sister, Dale Lawhon; and son-in-law, Dwane Witt. Pallbearers will be Fred Grass, Kevin Grass, Bruce Williams, Gary Lovern, Lindsey Cochran, Herschel Wilson and Scott Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Seth Simmons, Joe Williams, Austin Wilson, Caleb Lovern, Christian Grass, Ross Cochran, Todd Simmons and Ben Simmons. Visitation will be 1 - 3 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
