HAROLD PHILLIPS Belden - Harold Phillips, 73, died Thursday, June 13, 2013. A Shannon native, he was born July 18, 1939, to Vernon Washington and Bessie Freeman Phillips. He was a graduate of Sherman High School. After 33 years of service, he retired from Day Bright Lighting. He, along with his wife, was a resident of Belden since 1995. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in active duty in Germany. A member of the American Legion Post 49, he served as the Master Mason of Tupelo Lodge # 318 and was a 32nd degree Mason at the Scottish Rite Valley of Corinth. He loved all animals, especially his three dogs Lucky, Sky and Brown which he took out for long walks and for rides in his truck. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends at the V.F.W. and drinking coffee with his buddies at Hardees. He was a member of Belden Baptist Church and Bill Yarbrough's Sunday School Class. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Belden Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Holcomb officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of many years, Jean Franks Phillips of Belden; two daughters, Jennifer Sharpe and fiance Greg Sheffield of Tupelo and Kathy Deer (Kirby) of Pearl; four grandchildren, Emily McGairty (Brian) of Pearl, Amy and Haley Sharpe both of Tupelo and Corey Shouse of Tupelo; two sisters, Laverne McCarthy of Bartlett, Tennessee and Shirley Tice (David) of Myrtle; two great-grandchildren, Avery Kate and Levi Sharpe and his nephew and special care giver, Doug Houston of Saltillo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Mac McCarthy. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the church.
