Dr. Tom Ellis
Sherman- Dr. Thomas Mastin Ellis, 79, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was born on June 11, 1943. Dr. Tom earned his degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University after graduating from Banks High School in Birmingham, Alabama. While at Auburn, he met his future wife, Sue McCartney, and they married on January 1, 1966. Following his extensive education, he worked at Vestavia Animal Clinic before he opened his own veterinary clinic in Irondale, Alabama for eight years. Dr. Tom then honorably served his country in the US Army as a Veterinarian Officer for two years, stationed at Fort Sam, Houston, Texas. After his service, he was with USDA, based in North Mississippi, as a veterinarian for 31 years. He was a member and Elder at Lawndale Presbyterian Church in Tupelo until 1998, and he is currently a member and Elder at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Saltillo. Dr. Tom enjoyed do-it-yourself home projects, watching mysteries on television, helping others, and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
Dr. Tom was survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue McCartney Ellis of Sherman; three children, Susan Parker Graham of Myrtle, Allison Wells of Tupelo; and Catherine Jennings and her husband, Chad of Oxford; nine grandchildren, Austin Parker, Brayden Parker and his wife, Audrey, Gavin Graham, Jordan Malone, Justin Malone and his wife, Courteney, Adelyn Wells, Silas Murphy, and Ryan Jennings; and one great-granddaughter, Kinsley Parker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mastin and Ellen Ellis; daughter, Lesley Malone; granddaughter, Asia Wells; and one sister, Barbara Dawson.
Graveside services honoring Dr. Tom’s life will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 at the Sherman Cemetery with Pastor Michael Kidd officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Pegues, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Justin Malone, Jordan Malone, Austin Parker, Brayden Parker, Chad Jennings, and Charlie Malone.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gavin Graham, Silas Murphy, and Glen Allison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 295 N 3rd Ave, Saltillo, MS 38866.
